About Desire for Departure

Desire for Departure is an exciting blend of world, traditional, and new instrumental music that features the hammer dulcimer. Supporting world percussion and varied instrumentation adds a marvelous element of groove and non-typical timings (5/4 7/8, 9/8) add appeal.

Careful consideration was given to recording quality, tuning, mixing, arrangements, and instrumentation. With award winning producer/engineer Randy Wills in the control room and the 2003 national hammer dulcimer champion in the recording room, this product is a powerful, professional grade recording.

Joshua states, "My goal for Desire for Departure was to demonstrate the versatility and class of the hammer dulcimer in a way that was fresh and exciting but also pleasant and comprehendible. Also, I wanted a professional grade recording that would appeal to listeners unfamiliar with the hammer dulcimer. Much of myself was put into this recording, and as you listen to it, I think you will get to know more of who I am and my relationship with my Creator."

I love the hammered dulcimer and all sorts of music but too often it seems that many artists are confined to one genre or another (i.e. Celtic, Southern Folk, etc.) Don't get me wrong, I enjoy such music but it is interesting to hear "something different" for a change.

Have you ever thought about offering "Desire for Departure" as a theme song for a Hollywood movie? My friends and I believe that it would be a great addition as a title song for a feature film, that's how good I think it is!
